Hagrid: A Motherless Character in Harry Potter
Hagrid, on the other hand, does seem to be an example to me of a character who is interestingly motherless. I mean, childless women in this series are vilified and if they're not vilified, then they are also reduced to their functional status as teacher or coach like Madam Hootch. The idea of Harry as being part of the non-traditional family of monstrous creatures that Hagrid brings under his wing is so beautiful to me. And I think too the way that he provides care for Hermione and Ron, he's also extending that care to them the way that we see Mrs. Weasley extending care to Harry, right? So it's like, oh
