The figure of mary magdalen very easily gets conflated with other characters in the tradition. A pope sort of put them all together and said, you know, here she is, this great symbol of a repentant sinner. But there's absolutely no evidence for any that in the text. I mean, if you look at the passages that just mention mary Magdalen, she's nothing but a thoroughly respectable follower of jesus.
