Aloeimization in Patients With Sickle Cell Disease

Many patients with sickle cell disease have at least one RH allele that is not what we would consider conventional. In all other populations, and particularly if we compare it to the European population, it's less than 2% of the population. And so for instance, say someone is homozygous for the RH Dallee Dao4, then their red blood cells will express only Dao4. So they lack some epitope of the conventional RH antigen to which they have become immunized to.
