The Origins of Katabas

Athanas says whoever's saying the most got the prizes. We do know there was sort of this floating battleship bear pong kind of game and that sort of looks to be the kind of classic version of Katabas. I guess my question is if you have people throwing too much wine around, are they already sloppy drunk at that point and it's just a mess? It seems like this could very easily get very messy.
