The New Deal was like technocracy liked. FDR embraced radical progressive reformers, and he flexed the muscles of government planning to lift the US out of the Great Depression. For some technocrats, that presented a very cool opportunity; for others, it was kind of a perversion. Howard Scott wasn't interested in any of that. He wanted the sort of purity of the movement. But all this splintering had really done damage to the movement. That very same year in 1933, the press declared that technocracy is dead.
