The greatness of the Apollinian is revealed in this ability to transform that destructive energy of Dionysus, according to Nietzsche. In Greece they sort of contain it within the magic circle of Attic tragedy. Apollo's the god who aims his bow and shoots from a distance. Rather than being absorbed by the art force like in the Dionysian, in Apollo you maintain your self-identity. The Olympian men sit above the society at large, which exists for the sake of these Olympian men.
