The Role of Political Extremes in Polarization
We tend to think that the normative response of our political group is more extreme than it actually is. This creates a gravitational force for us to prefer that view because we think this is representative of our group and so we're attracted to it. People at the extreme can be very loud, their social media behavior gets amplified more easilythan people who use less moral emotional language. We don't want to express these views, but we think that knowing them can help us improve our toolbox in the future.
