America has the fourth largest lithium reserves in the world. But plans to exploit those areas are under attack by environmentalists and indigenous groups. America's largest known lithium deposit is along the border of Nevada and Oregon. In 2021, the Trump administration approved plans for a $1 billion mine at that site.
