Receptionists are trained to a level but should we be using for example nurses to answer the phone or some practices they'll almost just funnel you into a GP telephone call back. "There's a strange relationship between receptionists and the patients whereby it's almost like a negotiation if I say the right thing can I see a GP otherwise I'll be sent to a lower trained specialist" says Dr David-Jones.
