Pods Against Tomorrow reinvestigates the noir genre one film at a time. Join our hosts, Hugh Manon and Abe Doubleday-Bush, along with a rotating guest — our "Ace in the Hole" — as they delve into an analysis of classic, neo-, and pastiche film noirs. Each episode explores the timeless themes that shaped the film noir genre and changed American pop culture forever.
This week's Ace in the Hole is Todd McGowan, a film scholar, philosopher, and Professor of English at the University of Vermont, where he teaches film and cultural theory. He works on Hegel, psychoanalysis, and existentialism, and the intersection of these lines of thought with the cinema. He is one of the originators of the LACK Conference, attended by a number of our past guests, and with Ryan Engley he co-hosts the WHY THEORY podcast. Todd joins us to discuss Jacques Tourneur's noir masterpiece, OUT OF THE PAST.
