He gave up some of his isolationist northern supporters among the Democrats and pulled back on some New Deal programs that would have influenced the South. America began to be convinced that we needed to prepare for a struggle in which we might be the only democracy left on the earth. The last two hallmarks of a fourth turning are simultaneous invasions in two separate parts of the world.
