What Is Cushing's Syndrome?
Cushing's syndrome is a state of excess cortisol. This might be a cause of new onset hyperglycemia in an individual. These patients can have mental derangements from depression to psychosis, from the excess cortisol. The disease is often due to a pituitary adenoma that ends up causing an increase in ACTH which then simulates the adrenal cortex to release glucocorticoids.
