Estate Planning in Missouri - I Am Really Entitled to 30%

There is a presumption in every state that a surviving spouse has a certain entitlement in Missouri it's 30% of your assets. A lot of our estate planning laws are built around public policy that could best be summarized as widows and orphans, nobody wants to leave a widow or an orphan out in the cold. Some of these presumptions you can overcome with your own estate planning documents but that 30% spousal elective share is very hard in the state of Missouri to disinherit a spouse.
