The Confluence of Church and State

The intermingling of church and state leads to abuses of power. A good example of this would be the crusades. The moslems wante control of jerusalem, the christian empire. When in control of jer Jerusalem, it's just like any other war. It's a territorial battle. There is fear of islamic invasion and islamic expansion into western europe. So there are these eternal benefits that are given or mised by the church if they will go to war. You see later as indulgences, controversies surrounding the reformation where people are paying money in order to receive years off of purgatory for either themselves or a relative.
