Writing - Is Your Writing Defensive?

Sometimes writers go to editors looking for feedback, but really just wanting validation. They know that the work they've produced is not the story that was in their head. Yet they take the feedback very personally and may not even be awarethat that's what's happening. For a writer who is feeling defensive receiving feedback, what advice would you have for that person?
