The Effects of Echolocation on the Brain

Scientists are interested in understanding what happens inside the brain when somebody experiences this. It's like an auditory illusion that demonstrates how our ears don't always get things right. Having two ears, with a big head in between, creates differences in the loudness and timings of sounds from the left and right. The odd shapes and squiggles of our pinna help us distinguish up from down, as well as front from back.
