The russian army basically came to a halt and was defeated in northern ukraine. Even once it focused on the east of the country, it was making very slow gains. So what we have seen around severadonesk around liman is a pretty important breakthrough for the russians. It's very bad news for the ucranian forces, along with their equipment, potentially trapped in this pocket. If these are captured, if these are destroyed, killed, this would be a big blow to the ukranians.
