Is It Really Original or Just Original?

The distinction between it being a cornicl unique synthesis and it being original is like a non distinction to me. I don't even understand how those two things are distinct. There may be ways in which you could qualitatively talk about degrees of originality, but it seems that the bar should not be set so high as to be something like, no one's ever heard something like this before.
