What's a Zero Interest Rate Policy?

A zero interest rate policy or ZIRP is a monetary policy that the US Federal Reserve has enacted for like the better part of the last 14 years. By keeping money cheap people are incentivized to borrow and spend and invest so similarly companies during low interest rates may look at kind of a relatively low risk opportunity to borrow then become less stingy where they invest in more risky business opportunities.
