In some cases in mental health clinical contexts, meaning making and meaning sharing are either diminished or destroyed. One narrative excludes the possibility of another narrative, which is sometimes religious and sometimes not. Hearing voices is probably the best case to look at this from because before 1987, there were no voice hearers.
