The Symbolism at the Heart of Baptism Is Death
The symbolism at the heart of baptism is death, which is why that you need to do baptism by immersion. In this sense, the ritual is a way of enacting early, before you die, your own death, so that you can get it out of the way,. So that you don't have to wait until the next life for your new life to begin. But apart from the symbolism, just the sheer, the sheer practice of the rituals themselves. Those rituals are designed, i think, as speed bumps, fact, red that forces us to slow down.
