The Dark Ages in Greece
Early Greece did not have the concept of inns for travelers, an institution developed known as Exenia. Zeus Exenios protected the right and responsibilities of guests and hosts alike. Even in a major commercial and tourist center, like the Pyreus, the standard of accommodation was deplorably low. The lack of decent facilities led Xenophon to recommend more hotels for ship owners around harbors.
