The Importance of Institutions in Democracy
In Britain, during the Second World War, the government stayed in office much longer elections were postponed. That indicates the strength of democratic institutions and an understanding about them. And I think you often see this with populist authoritarian movements: They will use the institutions to get into power and then they will destroy those institutions. But where institutions are under question, I think wars can often have the effect of a particular there in successful wars.
