Our olfactory system has the inherent ability to regenerate over our lifetime. About every three to four months, these nerves are dying off and regenerating new nerves take over. When people have this more permanent type of loss in smell and taste, that natural, inherent regenerative capacity of the ollfactory epithelium of all these different types of cells has taken a hit. And so that's what a lot of our therapes are actually aimed at targeting, trying to kick start that natural regenerative capacity to turn back on again.
