The Negative Connotation of Private Military Contractors
The number of uniformed US service members fighting in Iraq and the Gulf War was 50 to one. In 2003, there were 180,000 private military contractors employed by the United States as part of the occupation of Iraq. The former apartheid soldiers of South Africa set up a number of so-called PMCs that started selling their trade to various different countries. And I think more than anything else, it speaks to the rise of free market fundamentalism on a worldwide scale.
