You know, i think there was a phase where ecologists or restorationists would say, the correct state of this ecosystem is such and such because that's what it looked like. You still see these sort of ecological assessments where they say, well, this is, this site is intact. This site is degraded. Those kinds of words sound scientific, but they are premised on the idea that the intact system is the superior, morally acceptable, good system. But it's all pegged to a cultural base line. And that wasn't being acknowledged, and it was driving me bonkers. It just means that we have to admit that ecology doesn't tell us that we need to make it look
