The Argument for Consciousness in a Computer Model

Being in a simulation is not the same as dreaming. A simulation would be quite real. It might contain other sentient people and our actions might have real consequences affecting other sentience. We can make no predictions about tomorrow, the whole world is a fake; it doesn't really matter what you do, you might as well go crazy. I think rather what you would do after you become used to the idea is to proceed with your life pretty much as you would have done if you were not in a simulation.
