No one has ever seen a live eel in the sagaso sea, only these small larvas. They literally disappear into the depths of the sagasos sea. And they also disappear from human knowledge in the way. El is actually going through metamorphosis, just like some insects do.
Where eels come from is a surprisingly difficult question to answer, in large part because scientists have never actually seen them reproduce in the wild. Gastropod explains why eels are somehow still so mysterious.
