The Importance of Suicide

Augustine cites the example of Daniel and his companions, of Jonah in the belly of a whale. He says that kidnapping and the travails of the imprisoned have happened to all people in all ages. In spite of the extreme circumstances that might prompt us into it, he writes, suicide is something that must be avoided.
