Jesus Knowledge of the Heart of Others and Their Practices

In the gospel of john, jesus speaks in as or concerning matters that would not be understood until later on. The woman here clearly does not understand what jesus means, and responds in a way that presumes that he is referring to physical water. Jesus answers her by opening up a different line of conversation. He inquires about her husband. Her answer that she has no husband, while technically true, is misleading. It covers up the reality of her situation. She has had five husbands, and the man that she is currently with is not her husband.
