Americans think that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, but it's a little more complex than that. The one invention that Edison made completely out of thin air apparently was the phonograph. And interestingly, it did not catch on at first. It was one of those inventions that was too early for its time. This would be what I would call doing an enders game. If you've never read the book or seen the movie, and I can't remember actually how faithful the movie was to this point of the book,. But basically they were supposedly playing video games and they were trying to find the ones who could fight best in the supposed simulators fighting off aliens.
