The Radical Realignment of Baseball

There was precedent for a radical realignment of baseball's leagues and divisions in 1997. The Cincinnati Reds were among the teams that would have to switch leagues. Baseball's six divisions would be reshuffled back into four with teams grouped geographically. Realignment is not so much a break from the past, but a return to it with modern day benefits such as reduced travel and more fan friendly television schedules.
