The Seven Sins of Wrongful Convictions
The two of the seven sins that are most relevant to these legal cases are suggestibility, as you say, and misattribution. Some one might misidentify a suspect because they look like someone who actually committed a crime. A person may misattribute the strong feeling of familiarity they have when looking at a face to actually having seen that person commit the crime. With repeated suggestion, imagining that the event occurred, would make the suggestion effect even wore.
