By the early 2000s, Teresa Russell was in her mid-40s and looking for work from a mainstream industry that had never embraced her as a commercial prospect. In an interview to promote her role in the Sundance-winning neo-Nazi drama The Believer, she'd dryly commented, I'll do anything for a regular paycheck,. Anything for the next decade plus would mean the last Sam Raimi Spider-Man film and a lot of TV. She did play a version of a pioneer woman in the proposition in 1996 and would pop up two years later in a film called Wild Things.
