The Politics of Grievance

There are real grievances in America right now. Middle class wages had been steady or declining in real terms since the 1970s. Healthcare costs have been shooting up. Outsourcing has gutted former industrial areas of jobs and led to all kinds of pathologies from despair, higher alcoholism. So I think it's just too pat or too dismissive to say this is grievance politics. Well, what if people have real grievances? Then what are you supposed to do? You're supposed to say you're a bad person for complaining?"
