Dominion Dome

In 19 53, i believe, ford motor company commissioned the first big commercial application of a dome because it had a rotunda that they wanted to be covered. The structure is in the shell like an egg, and there's no need for columns so you could span things. He wound up with 28 patents in all. Andtit's still the oldest dome standing. It's in wood's hole on cape cod in massachusetts. There's an effort to save that dome and turn it into an art center.
