The Ministerial Section of the Salary Is a Top Up
We are liable for over 700,000 pounds of effectively redundancy payments to ministers. This is a legal entitlement that ministers have existed legislation passed under John Major's government. The reason behind it is because ministers can be dismissed instantaneously. They have no job security. There's no notice period and there's no contract. So it's partly to recognise they're human beings with mortgages and families. And so it's to provide a little bit of a kind of cushion for them. But as you say, this last year, we've seen so many ministers leave in government. It's balloons and balloons and balloons.
