The History of Leveraged Buyouts

A leveraged buyout is when a group of private equity investors sees a company that's not a company. They approach the company and they say, here's what we're going to do. We're going to take out an enormous loan. The leverage for the loan will be the company itself. So in the example of Chuck E. Cheese, you would say, okay,Chuck E. Cheese makes $50 million a year. That's sort of ripe for the picking.
