Is Melbourne a Totally Serious Rainmaker?
There's some evidence and not conclusive evidence that Melbourne was using a barometer, which could have helped him figure out when rain was more likely. Do you think that these things would indicate he was a fake? Not necessarily. Rainmakers did need to do a certain amount of proof-oriented demonstrations in order to convince people that what they were doing was real. And they knew that skeptics would just point it out if they always did their rainmaking when rain was in the forecast.
