The Moral Importance of Nature
I think there's more going on when it comes to what we owe animals. The fact that animals have certain intentions and a certain nature that normally wants expression also matters. There's something about restricting the natural intentionality of animals that I also think is morally important. They don't add up to dignity, but they're quite different than plants and rocks or even bacteria or spiders.
