I don't think oil was a prime driver in decision-making but I think it was a distorting factor in some cases so that America to start with didn't have a coherent conception of its interests in the Middle East. Greg: The concern about the flow of Saudi oil distorts our thing is that we don't give those kinds of moral considerations do attention and  it's led to a relationship where the United States still 20 years on viewed Saudi Arabia as an ally. John Avlon: It's one symptom of not having a real conception of our interests or whether you're democratic or republican sitting in the White House there isn't a sort of thoughtful conception of what is in our interests
