Chapter 7 - Beware of the Post-Hawk Fallacy

An anti smoker researcher once went through the trouble to prove if cigarette smokers make lower grades in college than non smokers. As it turned out, they did. For anti smoking groups, the news was mising for their argument that smoking makes dull minds. The post hawk fallacy states that we often assume casual relationships because we assume, if b follows a, then a caused b. One correlation is produced by chance. You may be able to produce a particular set of figures to prove some unlikely thing, but if you try again, your next set may not prove it at all.
