Gottman: Addictions rob your freedom to will yourself the good, to receive another and to stand with one another. Abuse robs habitually the other person of the assurance that they are a son or daughter of God, the father is abusive. We need to know that I don't just want to love you, I don't want this addiction where I'm going to quit this thing, I're going to change it. Gottman: The goal is not to be on the same page as each other in terms of what we expect from marriage.
