In the modern sense, military analysts use the term assassins mace to refer to an asymmetrical warfare kind of strategy that China has to pursue. It's a way to balance out having some kind of deficiency where you can't match up with a more powerful adversary in directly head to head or in a broad array of different areas. In the David and Goliath case, Goliath is big, fast, strong and heavily armed. So to offset that, don't get close to him. Stay as far away as you can and use a weapon that's going to strike from afar.
