Math literacy is just another abstract, simple system for a very concrete relationship that we have with everything around us. It's a way of talking about reality that we use mathematical symbols to describe. And so if we can start with kids understanding that they are describing reality in this variety of ways, first through language, a second through quantity or measurement or scale, this really leaves them with a foundation.
