The History of Florida

The official history of Florida is that the Spanish conquered it from the natives in 1513. The Barbary Wars were a series of two wars fought by the United States, Sweden and the Kingdom of Sicily against the Barbary states of North Africa In the early 19th century, the war brought an end to the American practice of paying tribute to the pirate states. It helped mark the beginning of the end of piracy in that region.
