We are not going to stop our species going extinct. The triggering event could be an astronomical phenomenon far more likely to be based in our own solar system. Yes, for clarity, the most likely situation is that we do it to our own dang selves. Like the sun, for example, is a giant gravity. Well, we don't fall into it, and we never will. It will eventually expand and encompass us - by which i mean our planet, not us. We got we got to move on.
