Aristotle and the Origins of Snails
Aristotle says that snails have been observed to copulate. And maybe it was just recreational sex, which is not how they're reproduction things. He calls animals in plants substances, which is his word for what is really important and exists in the world. But he would be called a scientist in our terms only because he didn't separate off biology or natural science from philosophy.
