Did the No Excuses Style Education Have a Disruptive Effect?
The students felt that they were academically prepared, so that was a positive. But some of the main obstacles were these relationships with faculty. The other one they talked about a lot was this idea of handholding in the no excuse school. They weren't really prepared to kind of independently manage their time. And i think from his perspective, ah, he himself was a black man who had founded this school, you know, not from that community, but from a similar type of community. I did hear from a, the founder of the schoolwho read the book and took offence at it, actually wasit was insulted by the portrayal of the school.
