Sally Kohn: monogamy has very much been the norm for our species. She says sharing a husband is not the type of situation that would inspire best friends and girls' nights out. So many aspects of the female phenotype seems to be designed to evoke social support, she says. Kohn: Maybe what women are doing when they form allies is maybe it's like an insurance policy in case my partner dies.
